The Problem: The Gathering
storm of mental health

Australian schools are facing a mental health crisis that was growing long before the recent challenges of bushfires and the global pandemic. Principals and teachers are on the front lines, witnessing a surge in student anxiety that affects not only wellbeing but academic potential.

“We know that untreated anxiety problems are a 'gateway' to more serious psychological problems in the teen years and its roots are in childhood.”

Dr. Patrick McGorry

The Cost of Inaction

Anxiety is not just an emotional hurdle; it is a barrier to education. Highly anxious children in Year 1 are 10 times more likely to be in the bottom third of their class by Year 5 (Lyneham (2009). Without intervention, these patterns persist and develop into more significant problems.

The impact ripples outward, straining families and overwhelming teachers who often lack formal training in mental health. The Anxiety Project exists to break this cycle.
